TMJ Pain treatment

TMJ-Temporomandibular Pain Dysfunction

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain can be caused by a variety of factors, including injury, stress, or muscle tension. Physical therapy can help ease TMJ pain by addressing these underlying issues. Physical therapists can work with patients to identify the source of their TMJ pain and develop a personalized treatment plan.

Some techniques that physical therapists may use to treat TMJ pain include:

  1. Stretching and strengthening exercises to improve range of motion and reduce tension in the jaw and neck muscles.
  2. Soft tissue mobilization techniques, such as massage or myofascial release, to alleviate muscle tightness and trigger points.
  3. Heat or cold therapy to reduce inflammation and ease pain.
  4. Posture correction and ergonomics education to improve body mechanics and reduce stress on the jaw joint.
  5. Electrical stimulation and ultrasound therapy to reduce pain and inflammation.

By using a combination of these techniques, physical therapy can be an effective way to ease TMJ pain and improve overall jaw function.
