Post Orthognathic Surgery Rehab

Recovering jaw mobility and range of motion

Orthognathic surgery can cause temporary limitations in jaw mobility and range of motion. Physical therapy can help improve these limitations by using various exercises and techniques to promote healing and restore full function.

Physical therapy may include manual therapy techniques such as massage or mobilization to reduce pain and stiffness in the jaw muscles and joints. Exercises to stretch and strengthen the jaw muscles may also be prescribed to help increase range of motion and improve function.

In addition to these techniques, physical therapy may also involve the use of heat, cold, or electrical stimulation to help reduce inflammation and promote healing. The physical therapist will work closely with the patient to design a customized treatment plan to address their specific needs and goals for recovery.

Overall, physical therapy can be an effective way to help patients recover range of motion after orthognathic surgery, improving their quality of life and ability to perform daily activities.
